The quiet is deafening. As I sit at the table only the sounds of my movement join in with those little house shifting creaks. It’s another world.
I can barely sit still. My voice is not booming off of the walls with “Don’t this,” and “Don’t that.”
Imagining another place, I can hear them with my lovely wife.
“Mommy, I’m hungry.”
“All done, all done…”
“Treat!”
And it only took about an hour to start relaxing to the point where I can think. My brain can transfer to the keyboard uninterrupted.
Precious moments…

Psalm 46:9-11
He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth;
he breaks the bow and shatters the spear,
he burns the shields with fire.
"Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth."
The LORD Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
Selah
That’s kind of the point to what many of us call a “Quiet” time. There is a moment when we can know that God is God. It’s not necessarily only when it is actually quiet, but it is when we are still in our perspective.
I had one hour of sleep last night. I am sure I will be tired at some point today, but I had a lot of time to reflect on stillness. Don’t get me wrong, I would have preferred to sleep, but I just couldn’t. Usually it is not a problem for me. For some reason I was awake with my thoughts.
I can’t even relate all the things that went through my brain, but it was nice in the end. I almost felt as if the Lord decided to keep me up so that he could spend some time with me. It took me a few hours to make this assumption. Really I was more interested in being asleep than spending time with God.
The longer I was awake and the more I thought about him – the more excited about his kingdom I became.
Psalm 73:16-18
O God, you are my God,
earnestly I seek you;
my soul thirsts for you,
my body longs for you,
in a dry and weary land
where there is no water.
I have seen you in the sanctuary
and beheld your power and your glory.
Because your love is better than life,
my lips will glorify you.
Hope God keeps you up all night too.
